In 1971, Zastava in collaboration with Fiat, introduced the 101:  a hatchback model based on the Fiat 128.  It was part of an effort to get a uniquely Zastava car which would be priced and positioned as a family car between the basic transportation provided by the Fica (750) and the high end Tristatch (1300).  It had its own nickname, as well, in fact 2 nicknames.  One was Stojadin (a male name riffing on the car's number in Serbo-Croatian:  sto jedan).  The other nickname is Kec (ace).  The car was manufactured from 1971 all the way through 2008 in several very discernible guises.  It was heralded as the 2nd least expensive car on offer from the company.  And, it was the longest running production car Zastava ever made, selling over 1.2 million vehicles.  During the final years of production it become know as a Skala, a much improved version of its Yugo predecessor.  Seeing as how only about 500 were made in 1971 with half or so crash tested away, it would have been quite the search to unearth a meaningful 1971 model to restore.  Instead, the team chose a fairly low serial number 1972 to perform its nut & bolt restoration to factory condition.  Brand new Zastava panels were discovered in factory perfect condition complete with tags still attached.  All body panels, but the roof, are new!  The fiat engine was rebuilt to better than original quality, as was the Fiat chromodora transmission.  Paint is from a Zastava green offered that year.  The interior is all original condition, refurbished only a bit given its excellent condition when the car was purchased.  The blend of originality on the inside and the exquisite restoration of the outside make this the crown jewel of our offerings to date.
