It came as a personal surprise to learn that the 1985 Yugo was predated by a Zastava Jugo 45 from 1981 to 1984.  So, when my search team turned up this rough gem, I had to have him.  He is a1984 model in totally original condition, inside and out including engine and trans and all they way down to the metal wheel caps on the rims.  Sure, he has had a long and hard life perhaps, but sill managed to run and drive to this very year.  With some refreshing of the engine, transmission, suspension, and exhaust, he has been born again to run.  Interior trim and overall build quality was higher during this era when the Jugo with a J was proudly built under the Zastava banner (see the steering wheel and the front hood emblem all emblazoned with Zs).  This one also boasta a Fiat powerplant to boot.  Beginning in 1985, the interior finish was cheapened, Zastava as a marque was withdrawn, the J became an "ypsilon" (the letter Y), and the YUGO brand was created for domestic and eventual international consumption, including the USA.  This is the first YUGOslav car ever exported to America and thought it went down in cultural iconographic infamy, it was not nearly as poor of a car as it was made out to be.  (Ask me about a book addressing this topic in future conversation.)  It is a neat little specimen that avoided becoming Frankenfied by spare parts, interior and/or exterior, from all kinds of other Yugo models and even altogether different cars just to keep it on the road.  Simply, a museum piece as a relic and testament to a car much maligned in the states.  Unduly so.  You will not be able to keep from smiling.
